I grew up on the typical American fare in the Midwest and I will be forever grateful for the time my mom spent bringing joy to our kitchen through all of our family meals. But so much has changed since then: food choices, family schedules, and sadly- the rates of disease.

I’m Joy Lenz, a Registered Dietitian in Wisconsin and I’m here to share not only my love for delicious food but also to help people feel their best. With simple recipes and a balanced whole food plant based (WFPB) lifestyle, I can help you transform your health and life for the better.

It’s one thing to tell you to eat healthy, it’s another to show you how

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to help people feel their best. Healthcare seemed like a natural fit, but I knew nursing and other allied fields were not the right path for me. My mom encouraged me to look into nutriition. After my first college class on the subject, I was hooked.

I’ve worked in multiple settings as a dietitian for more than 20 years, and still love this career path.

People really do want to learn

About a decade ago, I started teaching cooking classes at a local community college and loved it. The experience encouraged me to constantly try new recipes. In fact, I thanked my students. The classes also reminded me of something very important – that people really do want to learn what to cook, what gadgets to use, how to save time and money, and how to eat well!

During that time, I came across a book called The China Study. After reading it, I shared the book with my husband, believing he’d enjoy it, too. I was right. He quickly adopted a plant based approach to eating, but I was slower to follow.

I crave beautiful plants

Now I’ve been eating plant based for 5 years. I see more and more evidence that a whole food plant based lifestyle is the best choice. It really does make me feel better and decreases my disease risk as well. I’ve also seen it completely transform the health of others. I absolutely love the variety and beauty (oh the colors) let alone the power of those plants on my plate!

While there aren’t enough hours in the day to try all the new recipes I find, I experiment with new ones every week – and I hope to share them with you!

Whether you want to go all in to plant based living for more of a health transformation or just up your plant intake as you decrease animal products, I’m so glad you’re here. Let’s get started and bring some joy (and powerful plants) to your kitchen!
