Simple Vegan Black Bean Burger
I have tried recipes for several black bean burgers, but this one is my favorite. You can keep it simple and just add chili powder or mix it up with cumin and coriander to add great flavor. I love the added onion and carrot to provide more nutrients and different texture. I use a food processor for this recipe to save time and chop the onion and carrots and then pulse everything after that.
I top my black bean burgers in different ways depending on my mood and what I have on hand. Sometimes I top with traditional pickles and ketchup and even sauerkraut. I also love to top these with avocado slices or guacamole. Have fun with different toppings. You can serve these on buns or open faced too. Or skip the bun altogether and serve on top of a salad.
Many black bean burger recipes needs eggs to bind them. This recipe does not.
Freezing for later
This recipe makes between 4-5 burgers. They freeze well too. I love having these in my freezer whenever I want one. Though I do occasionally eat store bought frozen veggie burgers, I much prefer this simple homemade version any day. It is not oily and has no preservatives.
Airfryer
I love to cook these in my air fryer. I cook them on parchment paper for about 8 minutes, then flip them and cook for about 8 more minutes. If you don’t have an air fryer, you can certainly use your oven.
I will most often double this recipe to assure I can put some in my freezer. I share notes about that below.
